Preparing Your Footwear for Winter

I live in Europe, specifically in Warsaw, where we have a typical European climate. Right now, people are switching to warmer shoes. Even though I’m not a fan of high-top shoes, they are sometimes necessary here as it does get cold.

At the moment, the weather still allows me to wear low loafers, so my new Chelsea boots are still in their box and I haven’t worn my shoes from last season yet. The first step in getting ready for the winter season is to get my shoes out of storage: take them out of the dust bags, clean them and make sure each pair has a shoe tree. That way, they’re always in great shape when I take them out.

So, what would I buy for this season? I’ll share a link to the brand I wear — all my high-top shoes are from them. And feel free to drop me a “thank you” on Instagram; I always appreciate hearing from you.

Chelsea Boots: A Classic Winter Staple

Let’s start with the Chelsea boots. I have a new pair this season and I love them. I’ve only tried them on at home, but they go with every pair of trousers and coat in my wardrobe. They’re classic suede in a nice shade of brown that fits snugly, which I really like.

Warm and Comfortable: Suede Boots with Fur

The second pair are from last year and they’re great for winter. They’re also suede with real fur inside, so they’re warm and very comfortable.

Chukka Boots: Versatility Meets Style

The third model is a pair of Chukka boots. They’re a bit like Chelsea boots but have laces. They’re also not very high, and you can find different versions of them.

I like all these styles because they’re versatile, and I can wear them with almost anything in my winter wardrobe — jeans, coats, a military-style jacket, or pants.

Where to Find Quality Winter Footwear

Below, I’m sharing a link where you can buy good-quality shoes. They also have nice tassel loafers. This is not a paid advertisement, just a recommendation; I personally own several pairs of this brand.

Just a reminder: let your shoes rest for 24 hours, use shoe trees, and clean them after you come home, not before going out.

Fact in the Spotlight

Chelsea boots originated in the Victorian era, designed by Queen Victoria’s shoemaker, J. Sparkes-Hall, in the 1850s. They featured elastic side panels, making them easy to slip on and off, a practical innovation for the time. The boots gained iconic status in the 1960s when they became popular in London’s Chelsea district, worn by style icons like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
