How I Started Making Trousers
I’ve told you before that I was born in Minsk, and I still remember how, back in the day, my friends and I struggled to find trousers that we actually wanted to wear. The ones available at the time had terrible designs and poor quality. One of my acquaintances gave me the contact of a tailor, and that’s how my first trousers were created – unique and different from anything on the market. I loved them and wore them with great pleasure.
Guess what color they were? Black, of course! But we learn from our mistakes, and I wouldn’t recommend repeating mine – start with at least navy blue. But that’s not the main point.
The real beginning of my tailoring journey was in 2018. After attending the winter Pitti Uomo, I finally decided to take a men’s suit-making course. I had been considering it for a long time, but this trip gave me the final push.
When I attended my first class, it was extremely difficult. I understood absolutely nothing. The instructors assumed that everyone in the group already had basic knowledge, but I was the only one who knew nothing at all.
I can’t say that the course taught me everything. However, it was a powerful motivation and gave me the responsibility to take things seriously. Everything else came with practice.
By the end of the course, I attended my final fitting, just before the summer Pitti Uomo. I asked the instructors not to be too harsh on me and to simply take a look at what I had done.
What they didn’t know was that alongside the trousers I made during the course, I was also secretly working on a second pair – off-white trousers – all by myself.
That was quite an adventure. My aunt gifted me an old sewing machine, and for a whole month, I woke up at sunrise to work on my trousers.
You should have heard how loud that machine was! Sewing at 5 a.m. was painful, and every morning I expected my neighbors to knock on my door and give me an earful.
In the end, everything turned out fine. The instructors praised my work, the neighbors could finally sleep peacefully, and I went to my second Pitti Uomo, proudly wearing the two pairs of trousers I had made myself.
Was it easy? Absolutely not. But what comes easily on the first try? Nothing.
Sewing Became My Meditation
After this experience, I upgraded to a better sewing machine and started making trousers for myself. For me, this became a form of meditation.
I would come home from work, put on a podcast, and spend two hours completely immersed in the process.
As often happens, my friends started asking where I got my trousers, and soon they wanted the same. That’s how I took my first orders.
I’ll be honest – the difference between sewing for yourself and sewing for someone else is huge. The responsibility and stress levels are completely different.
But my friends were happy, and before I knew it, their friends started placing orders too. That’s when I realized: if I wanted to grow, I needed to find professional tailors to help create trousers for our brand.
I found them, and we started working together. But our trousers are very complex to make, and it was challenging for many local tailors in Minsk. Sometimes, I had to replace tailors to ensure we achieved the perfect result.
A Game-Changing Experience
This journey gave me a deep understanding of the craft. Now, I can easily communicate with tailors, explain exactly what I need, and fine-tune every detail of the trousers.
This experience also helped me connect with clients – I know what’s important, what questions to ask, and how to find the right fit for them.
A New Chapter
As I’ve mentioned before, it’s time for the next big step. This year, our goal is to launch our ready-to-wear trousers, so that anyone, anywhere in the world can finally order them.
We’re already testing a new model, and we’ll share the results with you soon.
If you work in manufacturing or have useful contacts, we’d love to collaborate!
Thank you for being part of our journey.
The elegance of your personality.
Fact in the Spotlight
Historical Status Symbol
In ancient China and among nomadic tribes, trousers were primarily worn by warriors and horsemen, as they provided comfort and flexibility for riding. In some cultures, wearing trousers was also seen as a symbol of high status and power.
