Basic mistakes in men’s style: 5 recommendations to improve your wardrobe
It has been a while since we last touched on your favorite topic — mistakes and recommendations in men’s style. Recently, while walking through the city, I noticed several people in just one day who had their jacket buttoned all the way up — and it reminded me that it is worth talking about this again. These basic mistakes in men’s style are more common than they seem, and they directly affect how your image is perceived. So here are 5 essential recommendations and mistakes every man should keep in mind:
1. A tie that is too short — a mistake in classic men’s style
A tie that ends above the belt looks unconvincing. Even slightly caricature-like. Let’s not bring Ronald McDonald into this, but it definitely does not add authority. The proper length is to the middle of the belt. If you are wearing high-waisted trousers, it can be slightly lower — visually it will look more balanced and harmonious. The correct tie length is one of the fundamental elements of a classic men’s wardrobe.

2. Too much perfume — a common mistake in a man’s image
Fragrance should be applied to clean skin, after a shower, on key points. Not before a workout, not “just in case,” and not excessively. Trust me, this is enough to be noticed. The only question is — in what way. A light, subtle trail always works better than a heavy cloud. Moderation is an essential part of modern men’s style.

3. A black suit — not the best choice for a foundational wardrobe
If we are talking about a classic, timeless wardrobe, a black suit is not the best choice for everyday wear. It works for the evening or perhaps in a movie like Men in Black with Will Smith. In real life, it is better to start with navy — as they say in good films: your first suit should be blue. It is the foundation of a man’s wardrobe.

4. Tie and pocket square — how not to ruin the look
If you choose to wear a tie and want to add a pocket square — that is perfectly fine. But it is important not to overload the outfit. The pocket square is not the main accent, but a part of the overall composition. Do not match it exactly to your tie. And definitely avoid ready-made “tie and pocket square” sets — I still do not understand why they are sold. Harmony in details is the foundation of elegant men’s style.

5. Finding your own style — the foundation of individuality
And let’s go a bit deeper. Forget about style icons. The main style icon should be yourself. Try, experiment, observe yourself. If you do not do this, you will never find your own style. It always comes from within, not from the outside. Your goal is to like yourself. And only then will you be able to be liked by others. Yes, you can take inspiration — even from Pinterest. But never copy. Style should reflect who you are, your character, your energy.

These are not strict rules. I will not come to you and say you must follow them. These are simply guidelines that will help you make fewer mistakes on your way to building your style and a well-thought-out wardrobe. You should have seen my outfits at my first Pitti Uomo festivals… I look back now and think — how was that even possible? But it was almost 10 years ago, and I am sure that in a few years I will look at my current outfits and think the same.
And one last thing — please do not button the bottom button of your jacket. And if you want to go deeper into your style and build it consciously, we help gentlemen develop their own style, wardrobe, and confidence through clothing. In this process, we become your personal stylist — attentive to details and to your inner sense of self. On the website, you can choose the format and option that suits you best — from basic solutions to more personal work.

Fact in the Spotlight
A whale’s heart can weigh as much as a car. In a blue whale, it can reach around 180 kilograms. Its heartbeat can be heard from kilometers away underwater. It is the largest heart in the animal world. And it beats very slowly.
That’s all for today. See you on Saturday next week!
Yours sincerely, Anton Masko
